Code Keys

An Auto Locksmith needs to be able to cut keys accurately.  Duplicating an old key is of little use as you are just duplicating the keys imperfections.  To cut a key the same as the original specifications the key has to be cut on a special code machine.  The code machine will cut a key at the correct spacing and at a specific depth for each cut of the key.

For some cars it is possible to cut a key to a code number.  The number is sometimes given to you when you purchase the car or in some cases is available from the dealer or in some cases is even able to be extracted from the cars ECU.  If no code number is available a key is still able to be cut to code.  This is done either by decoding the key or reading the wafers inside the locks to determine the lock's code.
